DENVER, Colo. (247marketnews.com) – Innovative Eyewear (NASDAQ:LUCY) is making a serious bid to turn smart eyewear from a niche gadget into a mainstream consumer and workplace technology category, and today’s double-barreled announcements give investors plenty to watch.
Innovative Eyewear has struck a strategic alliance with HTC to bring HTC’s VIVE Eagle AI camera glasses to the U.S. market in September through Lucyd.co, complete with U.S.-based prescription fulfillment. The deal is notable because LUCY says VIVE Eagle is the first partner-developed product it has agreed to sell through its own flagship store.
CEO Harrison Gross called the product a standout, saying: “I truly feel this smartglass is superior to other camera glass options available today.” HTC’s Charles Huang said the companies are joining hands to provide U.S. consumers with an “amazing and seamless fitting and prescription experience.” Those are big claims, but the timing is even bigger.
The smart-glasses race is accelerating. Meta’s AI-enabled eyewear is gaining traction, while Apple, Google, Samsung and others are reportedly pursuing the category as a potential new interface for AI. At the same time, privacy concerns are becoming impossible to ignore: U.K. cinemas recently moved to restrict camera-equipped smart glasses over recording and piracy concerns.
That makes HTC’s privacy-oriented features especially relevant. VIVE Eagle disables recording when the glasses are removed or when its indicator light is obstructed, according to HTC.
Additionally, LUCY announced a test rollout of Lucyd Armor smart safety eyewear into more than 150 stores of a major U.S. big-box retailer, with sales expected to begin in October. The retailer has not been named.
That move could be the more important commercial catalyst. LUCY’s latest financial results showed second-quarter revenue of $1.01 million, up 74% year over year, marking the company’s first quarter above $1 million and its 12th consecutive quarter of year-over-year growth. Lucyd Armor was a major driver, with roughly 4,700 units sold, nearly double the year-earlier figure. Gross margin also returned to positive territory at 24%.
LUCY is rapidly layering AI capabilities onto its ecosystem. In July, the company announced Claude integration across its Lucyd smart-eyewear lineup, giving users access to Anthropic’s AI through the glasses’ audio interface.
