Ford Motor Co. unveiled the Fathom, a five-passenger electric midsize pickup with a starting price of $28,350. Destination and delivery charges will bring the entry price to $29,945, while preorders are scheduled to begin in early 2027 ahead of customer deliveries later that year.
The Fathom will be the first vehicle built on Ford’s Universal Electric Vehicle platform, which is intended to reduce production costs and help its Model e business reach breakeven by 2029. Ford is moving forward despite slower EV adoption, the elimination of U.S. consumer incentives and $19.5 billion in restructuring charges related to its electric-vehicle operations last year.

Investor Sentiment
Declines across electric-pickup manufacturers suggest investors remain cautious about demand, pricing pressure and the cost of developing new EV platforms. A pickup priced near comparable gasoline-powered vehicles could broaden the potential customer base, but Ford must demonstrate that affordability can be achieved without sacrificing margins.
Investors will closely monitor preorder demand, production costs and progress toward profitability as the 2027 launch approaches. If Ford’s new manufacturing process delivers the promised efficiencies, the platform could strengthen its competitive position and place additional pressure on automakers selling electric trucks at substantially higher prices.
