Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. reported record profit for a sixth consecutive quarter as surging artificial intelligence demand intensified competition for its advanced manufacturing capacity. The company produces the processors used by NVIDIA, Advanced Micro Devices and Broadcom, while technology giants increasingly rely on it to manufacture custom AI accelerators.
TSMC expects fourth-quarter revenue to increase 58% from a year earlier, but demand continues to exceed available factory capacity. The company is expanding in Taiwan, Japan and Arizona, where its planned investment has reached $265 billion, although much of that additional production will take years to become available. The shortage could constrain the aggressive growth and infrastructure targets established across the AI industry.

Investor Sentiment
The broad decline in semiconductor shares suggests investors remain sensitive to supply constraints that could limit AI revenue growth even as demand stays exceptionally strong. TSMC’s record results reinforce its strategic importance, but limited wafer availability may force customers to compete more aggressively for production slots and commit to supply agreements years in advance.
Capacity shortages could create an opportunity for Intel and Samsung to attract customers seeking alternative manufacturers and greater pricing leverage. Investors will monitor new factory construction, equipment orders and customer allocation decisions for signs that supply can expand quickly enough to support the industry’s ambitious capital-spending plans.
